Well, as we are counting down to Xmas in July here in Brissy it got me thinking how xmas in July came about in the first place, after all it does seem a bit odd. lol.
When we first moved here and someone mentioned the xmas toy sales IN JULY ,i thought they were mad!!! lol Now i have experienced it and made use of the 'Lay-By' system (another thing Alien to me 4 years ago) my what a god send,,

So for anyone who like me wonders how or where Xmas in July came from , and who we owe our thanks to,lol, then have a read of this link

Well I must admit I thought it strange last year when I arrived in Australia to find everyone was preparing for Christmas, and a lay-by was something I parked in for a picnic.

Now I have been here 12 months it’s just become something I am getting used to, my wife who originates from Coffs Harbour in NSW just takes it in here stride and assures me it’s just an excuse for a party in the winter. She always presumed it was so that the original ex-pats in Australia could enjoy a Christmas meal in the cooler weather. As for the lay-by system we have not used it yet, (having no kids helps), But I must admit it does seem to work well and is very popular. I wonder what people think who come over for a reccie in July and they find themselves in the middle of the Christmas season, and new visitors to this site will wonder what the hell we are talking about :biggrin:
