My girlfriend and I are moving to Brisbane in 5 weeks. We are looking for a furnished 2 bedroom apartment $550 p/w. We will be on salaries or $72000 and $70000.

Will this be a reasonable income to live on?

    Thanks

Are you looking to be here long term? If so, it will be much cheaper to find an unfurnished rental and furnish it yourselves. Furnished places do tend to be a lot more.

    Hi Xisforxray,

    Welcome to BIB

I have to agree with Rudi, an unfurnished place is cheaper and you can furnish it yourselves, a combined sallery of $140,000 (if i read it correctly) should be plenty for you to live on. I think the average salery for QLD is $63000.

Well, the plan is to stay for a year and see how we get on. I have a 4yr skilled migrant visa but girlfriend only has a working holiday visa. We have been offered 2 weeks accommodation by our employers but start work 12 days after arriving.

Don't want to buy loads of beds tabels etc for a year to find we are coming back to uk. I'm sure after a year I would look to buy a house as renting is expensive.

    Hi
Could you not hire some furniture? we rent furniture to lots of new arrivals as alot of the bigger companys want to tie you in for a full 12months, any less and the prices shoot up. If you rent you have no hassles and only a small outlay every week.

You could also look for second hand furniture and just buy new materesses,Garage sales are very popular here and theres always Ebay, lol. If you decide to return in a years time you just hold a garage sale and sell it all again.

Finally rent a furnished apartment but as they are more expensive than unfurnished ask for a discount as you are willing to stay for a while. Sites like SEQRENTS.COM may be best for longer term furnished properties. Also remember although the weekly rent is more on a furnished property ,most of your utility bills are included.

Hope this gives you an idea of options open to you
