My husband and I are waiting for our visas to move to Brisbane, hopefully moving in 6 mths time! We have a 4mth old daughter so we are looking at suburbs which are suitable to raise a family. Currently we like the sound of: North Lakes, Forest Lake and Wellington Point. Can anyone please tell me what these areas are like and if there are any others that we should be considering?

Also any other tips would be great for a young family moving to Oz??

Where would you be working? That would make a difference to where you live too.

  3. We have visited Springfield Lakes. Very nice. All new (schools , shopping centre etc ) and the developers are encouraging new neigbours to get togther by having special evenings. Good way to start. You can buy new but there are some that people are renting out. About an hour drive from the city but links are being improved and there is a train station near by. North Lakes is operated by the same developers.

We live in Thornlands which is another Bayside suburb, just down the road from Wellington Point. If you are looking at Wellington Point then also take a look at Ormiston, Cleveland, Thornlands, Victoria Point and Redland Bay. All ready great suburbs, good schools, near the water - so cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter than the inland suburbs.

Good luck with the move, let me know if you need more info, we've been here a while and LOVE it!

    Hi,

I would like to inform you on areas around brisbane and the gold coast
On the Gold Coast a lovely area very family - practical is Coomera Springs, However a much nicer suburb is Coomera Waters were you can buy houses backing on to the Coomera river.

In Brisbane some lovely areas are:
    - Indooroopilly
    - Fig Tree Pocket
    - Kenmoor

    I hope this information helps,

    Lizzie

    North Lakes

We are from Scotland and arrived in Brisbane - North Lakes in Feb after an 11 month stint in Tassie.

We love North Lakes - it is a little community in itself.
Sports Clubs, Gym, Outdoor Swimming Pool, Sunday Markets, and good state schools as well...plenty clubs for the kiddo when a little older too.

We have met many people already and made some great friends.

There are plenty families from the UK live here.

    Good Luck with everything :0)

Hello, we currently live in Adelaide and are moving to Brisbane with my husbands job next month. We are looking at Clelveland or Birkdale to live in. Can anyone tell me anything about these suburbs or if there are good schools nearby.

    Thanks
    Jackie

    Hi Jackie

    Welcome to the forum.

Both the suburbs you have mentioned are good suburbs with good schools. However, I would not discount some of the other Bayside suburbs as well - Thorneside, Wellington Point, Ormiston, Thornlands, Victoria Point and Redland Bay.

They are all great, we are so spoiled for choice! The local schools are good - are you looking for state or private schooling? There's plenty of choice for both.

Lots of things for kids and families to do around here. What ages are your children?

We love living here. If you want to meet up for a cuppa when you arrive, my kettle is always on!

    Love

    Hi Rudi,

    Thanks for the welcome:biggrin:

We are looking at all of the areas that you metioned. Husband will be working in Moorooka so we need to be careful with where we choose to live, so that his commute isn't too far. Hoping to get our daughter (age 11) accepted into Ormiston College. Fingers crossed.

Would love to catch up for a cuppa when we get settled.

    Cheers

She is in grade 7 here in Adelaide but i was thinking of putting her back into yr 6 when we move so that she is with her own age group. Any idea what the waiting list is like?

How long have you been in Brisbane?

Not sure - she only started at the beginning of this year - year 6 is an intake year. We were't on the waiting list in November, but I spoke to Peta Scott, the registrar and she found a place for her. However, my eldest daughter was already in the school, so I don't know if that made a difference. Just try calling her - I'll PM you my details and tell her that you are moving from Adelaide and that I have recommended you. It can't hurt.

We've been in Brissy since May 2008 - we were in Sydney for 5 years before that. We love it up here!

    Hi Rudi,

Spoke to Peta today. There are no places in Yr7 (my daughters correct year level). I'm slightly panic striken now!! Will try Sheldon tomorrow.

Oh dear, that's a shame, it is such a lovely school. Sheldon is also an excellent school.....but not right for us. We found it far to structured and regimented. People either LOVE it or HATE it LOL!!
