    Hi all
We are just in the process of applying for our Self Sponsored 457 and are looking for suggestions on good areas for a young family that are close to all amenities!

Any suggestions would be most greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Claire and Ryan,

I'm making the move to Brisbane with my wife and 2 year old son in January 2011. The company I'm joining have hired a relocation specialist to assist us in finding a suitable rental location - we completed two questionnaires on lifestyle and family so that they could get a feel for areas that may suit us. I'm a design engineer and my wife is a stay-at-home mum and we're really into enjoying life with our son, so maybe this can give you a feel for the types of things we were looking for. I posted an introduction of myself on this site and got some good feedback from other posters, so maybe you could have a search for that.

We've been advised to look at the inner suburbs first so that we can get our bearings, but our intention is to move out asap to a suburb with more modern accommodation than you'll find in the inner suburbs - not negating that fact that you'll find modern appartments in the inner suburbs also.

We'll be staying in the company appartment in Fortitude Valley for 5 weeks then moving to our first rental property which, on advice of the relocation specialist, is likely to be one of the following: new farm; teneriffe; newstead; auchenflower; taringa; toowong; paddington; red hill; ashgrove; bardon; indooroopilly; st lucia; clayfield. That said, we have been very impressed with Carindale and Wakerley, and in addition to this will be looking more out to the bay to places such as: sandgate; brighton; shorncliffe.

Once settled in Brisbane I'll log on and give a wee update but until then, good luck.

Thank you so much - have had a little look at your first thread - it is all so mind blowing!!!
As I said, we just don't know where to start. Thats really handy your new employer has got you a relocation specialist - unfortunately, because we are doing self sponsorship, we don't have that luxury although might find it could be money well spent - I take it you have found them to be pretty good? What's the company called? might be worth having a look at them!

Thanks again - and good luck with your move next month - I bet you can't wait. I hope your wife settles in well with your son - I will definitely be looking to get in touch with toddler groups with my two boys who are currently 10 months and 3 1/2 yrs. Mind you, probably by the time we get everything sorted the eldest will be thinking about pre-school.

Would love to hear an update - take care
