    Hi everyone

We're trying to work out which is the best bank in Brisbane to open an account with. Based on charging to use atm's, do they have Internet banking, many branches, charges to transfer money to uk etc.

Also, does anyone still have a uk bank account or any uk financial things that need paying for by monthly direct debit ie: life insurance, mortgage, landlords insurance, loan etc? How does this work because from what I've read, you are charged for every transfer from oz to uk account? Can you set up direct debits from oz account to pay a uk finance company ie to pay your life insurance or loan?
Thanks so much for reading my long speel!! It's getting more and more real now and lots to sort out xx

I do not believe there is much to choose between the main banks in Australia, Brisbane is well served by all of them and it will come down to what they can offer you individually. You will find links on this site to NAB, Personally I am with I am with ANZ. You will also find that it is possible to open accounts in the UK and activate them when you get here.

If you want to transfer money back to the UK a bank will charge you and you get the worst rate. Take a look at some of the Forex companies who transfer money between countries, Normally they are cheaper and you get a better rate. You will find links on this site for Moneycorp and they should offer special rates for members of this site, but there are others so shop around and look for the best deal.

We still have our UK bank account. There's just enough in it to keep it ticking over and have a couple of regular debits coming out of it.

    Hope that helps
