    Hi Terry,

    Welcome to PIO,

I do not know about construction and maintenance generally but if i tell you my story it may give you some ideas. I came out here 2 years ago age 56 (Just do not tell everyone how old i am) In the UK I was a paramedic/supervisor and when we got to Australia we started to look for something we could do together. Looking for Jobs that I could possibly do I came across the following types of jobs.

Building maintenance... Some live in, some live in area. acting basically as caretaker and looking after apartment buildings and holiday apartments.

Holiday park maintenance... Mostly live on site and help to maintain and assist on holiday parks.

The way these types of jobs work varies from free accommodation and no pay, free accommodation with small pay right up to full paid job. I did find one that was live on retirement home estate as caretaker, free accommodation and no pay. However all the maintenance on site was done on a "tender" basis and you could tender to get various contracts such as cutting the grass, and gardening. Also offering services to the residents as a business such as gardening.

There are various opportunities In Australia but you sometimes have to think in another direction to what you would normally.

As for me, well we are currently acting as curators for a local history museum in a small town. Where else could a British paramedic end up running a museum?
