I've just sent off my registration application & assuming it's accepted I'm looking to migrate next year.

I'm assuming that supply teaching will be my first & probably best option initially. So, can anyone tell me if suppy work is readily available in Brisbane? Any one with experience?

    Thanks.

    Hi Trebor

Are you primary or high school trained?

There is more work in the high school system, but you may find you are teaching outside of your subject area a lot....so effectively just babysitting!

Also, check the rules for supply. In NSW as a primary trained teacher, I could also do supply in high schools (not that I ever did)!. I am not sure whether that's the case in Qld, as I never registered up here.

    Love

    Hi Trebor,

I arrived 3 months ago fully QLD registered primary teacher and have only had 1 day of supply in 3 weeks. To be hired within a government school you have to complete a 20 day contract or 40 days supply then you are assessed, if there are any jobs available they will then place you. I am currently applying in the private sector but am not getting anywhere fast, there seems to be a lot of teachers about and not too many jobs.

I think that there are more secondary jobs available. My advise would be to get yourself on the supply register asap and also start applying for jobs as soon as you can.

    Claire
