Hi, wonder if anyone can help.
I am in the u.k but my Nursing registration has lapsed since we had our children.
I am keen to return to nursing, does anyone know if there is such a course in Queensland? If so is it uni based?
Have tried to find out but the websites i have found area bit old.

    Thanks

    Hi Judy

Prior to July this year a re-entry program was offered by Central Queensland University. This is no longer available as this year we finally amalgamated all state nursing council to one body ( much better as we used to have to register with each one if you worked between states.) Try this link for information on RPL and re-entry programs. I believe Queensland will be offering something in the future.

    Hope this helps!
We really need more Registered nurses out here
    Good Luck

    Hi Judy

No problem. Hope the link is useful. Familiar territory to me as I completed a re-entry course 6 years ago for the same reasons.
I faced new challenges as I was hospital trained and not used to producing academic assignments.
By the end I was really enjoying it though. Did it externally while working as an assistant nurse
as there was and still is plenty of work for care staff.
Again, good luck with all your plans

thanks Kwambo! I was thinking of working as a nurse assistant while training for registration again!
My speciality was sexual health and hiv so hope to get back into that eventually!
    Thanks for your help

hi! Judy, saw your post, I am in exactly the same boat as you, UKCC registration has lapsed, have been out of nursing for about 12yrs now whilst bringing up the children and travelling around with hubby in the British Army. We have our 176 visa and are heading to Brisbane on 29th Nov (7wks and counting). I have looked at doing the RTP courses in Bris and they do do one for overseas nurses but on all of the sites it states that to get on a course you must hold your Nursing Registration in the country you trained it cannot have lapsed like yours and mine. The only other option is to do the 3yr nurse training again and this is a hell of a cost in Aus. I was gutted, I could'nt get re-registered again in the UK because we live in Germany and trying to find a RTP course in the UK to fit in just proved too difficult and now they are far and few between. I suppose you could try and do a course before you leave for Aus you may be lucky and find one in the area you live at least then you would be registered again. Anyway, if you find a way around it let me know would you?? LOL!!!! When are you planning to move to Aus?? We'll have to meet up maybe?? Thanks Elaine

    Hi! Kwambo,

When you did your RTP course in Aus did you still hold your nursing registration from the country you trained in. Hoping you will say 'NO' but still you managed to get on a course without it and I have got it wrong!!! LOL!!! Thanks for any help as I would love to get back into nursing now the kids are older and I definately need some brain cell stimulation, definately too long just being a mum!!! Thanks Elaine

Hi, that is dreadful news!!!Oh no!!
I will do some research also but it just does not make sense as if you are already registered in the u.k you would not need to do a back to nursing course!
    Madness
I do not think i could cope with doing the whole three years again! I did look into a course in the u.k but they certainly do not help or encourage you, it was also quite expensive!
We are hoping to move out next spring to early summer.Where are you headed to?
Thanks for all your help, i will let you know what i find out!

Even if you still have your registration in the UK but you have'nt practised for 5yrs you would have to do the RTP course just to update yourself on everything new. I regret so much not keeping my registration going it would have avoided all this trouble now. I can see myself working in Aged Care as a health carer for the rest of my days (Oh!! No!!!!!), even to do that I would have to do a years course to get a Certificate 3 in Aged Care, think that costs about $1,500. Can't win LOL!!! How many years have you been out of nursing?? They are so short of them in Aus (like UK) so its sooo! frustrating really.

We are off to the Brisbane area, we are staying in Ashmore Palms Holiday Village for 8wks initially while we secure a rental and await the arrival of our container, its on the Goldcoast you've probably heard of it, a lot of immigrants seem to use it as a short stopover. We will be going in the Summer Hols so that should give me enough time to look at schools etc, I have shortlisted a few so just need to check them out really. Do you have children??

I'm going to look at Queensland Uni's as the nursing courses seem to be Uni based and see if there are any updates regarding the course, if I see any interesting links I will post them on here for you to have a look at. Hope you find something!! Happy researching!!

    Thanks Elaine

Hi again, i have been out of nursing for eight years now, since my daughter was born. It is a problem, i had a more in depth search and could only find any relevent info about return to practice courses in the state of victoria. No help at all really!
I have one little ray of hope, i was previously registered with the new south wales nursing board as i worked in Sydney foer three years back in the nineties so i am hoping that will help but to be honest think i will have to wait till i get there as the internet is very frustrating. Sorry that doesn't help you much but there must be a way!
We have three children, 8,5 and 2. We had a reccie in february this year and stayed on the gold coast. Loved it!! did a bit of travelling round and drove down to sydney via byron bay and port mcquarie.
We have still to decide exactly where we want to settle initially, off the boil a bit as having a problem selling the house!! Cannot believe it hasn't sold but need to sell it to get out there!
Hadn't heard about the park you are staying at on arrival...will have a nose!
    Keep in touch,
    Judy
