    Hi,

so when I do finally get my visa (hopefully very soon) the area my wife and I have pretty much narrowed it down to is Redcliffe or one of the surrounding areas.

Is anyone from Redcliffe here or know much about the area?

I have been given mixed views about some of the places. Margate - I've been told good and bad things about this place. That it's not safe (I'm coming from Rochdale, can it really be that bad???) but others have told me it's quite nice there.

Deception bay and Kippa-ring - I haven't heard much good about either of these places yet.

I'd love to hear a few more opinions on Redcliffe and/or the surrounding areas.

    Chris :)

You need to see the places yourself to make a decision. We had planned on moving to Deception Bay, but when we visited it looked old, tierd and quite scruffy in places so we decided it wasnt for us. If you visit the local shopping ctr you can normally get a good idea by just looking at the locals what the area is like. Pick up local papers and have a read of the crime reports, just dont be influenced by others views, only you know if its right for you.

Thanks yeah I agree I need to see the place for myself. My sister in law has just booked he flights for mid April so a huge influence on oh decision will be where she decides to settle too :)

Its a tough choice picking an area there are sooo many lovely suburbs out there and from my experience even what the 'aussies' call 'rough' isnt a patch on some dodgy areas around Manchester,lol..

The Redcliffe area used to have a reputation as a rough outer suburb. Over the years it has developed a lot and now a lot of it looks great. Locals tell me that there is still a mixed bag of residents from the down on his luck all the way through to flash git. I think it would be a laid back sort of place to live. They also said, like most coastal areas, that the further from the water the worse the suburb. Deception Bay, being inland from Redcliffe, is still considered the rough end of town.

Every time I drive up there I am impressed by all the lovely foreshore work they have done and how nice it is looking. My friends love living there (in Scarborough). They tell me that Scarborough is the posh end of the Redcliffe peninsula :) When they arrived from the UK ~ 2 years ago they rented a 5 bed house right on the beach for around $550 per week.

Hi Chris, Redcliffe is also on my list, we are coming from Bacup (it can't be as rough as round here) and I think what we have decided to do is rent a house for a month or so and drive up and down till we find somewhere we like. Our visa came through yesterday (175) so it's now job hunting time! Good luck with your visa

Oh wow! We may see you there!! We are also looking a bit further north at The Sunshine Coast, it will all depend on where we get jobs. I'm a Nurse and my husband is a Tree Surgeon. We have got a baby so it will be down to where my husband gets a job and I will find work when we get there

I used to live in Redcliffe and worked at the Redcliffe Hospital. My first daughter was born there. I think it was quite good place to live. It is not the most affluent area of Brisbane - a lot of people from the Manchester area moved there on the £10 passage (including the BG's - they used to live there) so it has that working class feel of the older generation but there are some really nice areas and private schools as well. It has a beach and it is quite nice - I would live there again.
