Hi - first posting for me. My husband and I are arriving in Brisbane for 2 years in January and our son is starting Reception in the UK on Monday. I have been looking into Prep and am not sure how it compares to reception. I was wondering if prep was more like pre-school or reception year in the UK. Our son was born in September and because he was born 2 weeks after the traditional 'cut-off' date has just been through nearly 2 years of Pre-school here - concerned if he has to have another one as he is 'ready' for school (starting to read already etc) and might get bored!! Would be grateful if anyone could help - only found out on Monday that we were relocating to the other side of the world!!!:redface:

Hi Prep here is much like reception in the UK.The do letter learning and basic phonics,no real early reader books yet other than the ones we personally get. My daughter is 6 next week and she started prep in January this year, and will move up to Yr 1 in Jan2010.

I am pretty sure the cut off date was recently changed to July 1st. If she/he is 5 before July 1st 2010 she will start prep in January 2010.
    Hope this helps a little
