Hi - hubbie and i and the 2 children, 2 dogs and the cat :err: are hoping to move to Oz in 2013, we have narrowed it down to Queensland but are slightly concerned about price of houses, we will rent in the beginning but obviously wanted to look at house prices as well for the future (out of interest!) are there any good websites to look at as the ones we find are all around the £200,000-250,000 mark is this the norm?? Thanks in advance for any help. Hannah x
Hi Hannah Welcome to the forum. http://www.realestate.com.au/buy & http://www.domain.com.au/ are the two biggest property websites. Virtually every property is listed on those two.
Rob has given you the most popular real estate sites so that should help with prices. Do you know what part of Queensland you intend to move to, being able to commute may save you a lot of money on buying a home. The nearer to Brisbane you get the chances are you will be paying a premium to buy a house. Also try not to compare Australian prices with UK prices, it gives you a false sense of the cost because of the horrid exchange rate. I would suggest to get an accurate idea of costs then work on % of income that will need to be spent in Australia compared to UK. Now I know that is as clear as mud so I will try to give you an example..... If you buy a house in the UK how many days do you have to work to earn enough to make the monthly payment. Then compare it to, If you buy a comparable house in Australia how may days will you have to work to make the monthly payment. That way should give you a better idea of real costs coming out of your Australian wage..
