Briefly, moved to Oz in 1995 - lived in Campbelltown area of Sydney Met and returned to UK (North Wales) in February this year. Very much regretting decision and money spent returning and seriously considering returning to Oz before the year is out - sooner rather than later pleeeese!! Thought about going back to Sydney (although never Western suburbs again) and having visited Queensland on a few occasions would like to relocate to Brisbane (as more likely to get job than coastal areas I think!). Just wanted to know others opinion of living in Brisbane - work situation, salaries, temp work, housing etc. Would need temporary accommodation whilst getting established then will be looking to rent house and bringing dog back from UK and sending for furniture. Very much appreciate any advice. Thanks. Lyn
Hi fantasia, Welcome to BIB, I think you will find that Brisbane area is slightly cheaper than Sydney for accommodation; sorry I do not know how the wages compare. A lot of people tend to use holiday lets for temporary accommodation until they sort things out. I do not think many people have a problem finding rentals, your biggest problem will probably be deciding just where to settle. There are many lovely areas within commuting distance of Brisbane. I would also suggest you look at the other areas for work, such as the Gold coast, and the sunny coast. Try to find where you stand a better chance of getting work and look what accommodation and facilities are available in those areas. Good luck with your plans, I hope it all works out for you.
Thanks very much Colin. Have a Brisbane Gregory's street directory here (dated 2003) - bought it when living in Sydney as I always wanted to move to Queensland, but just got in a rut and ended up staying in Campbelltown and doing the big commute to Sydney CBD everyday. Wish I had sold my house in Oz and moved up instead of returning to the UK. Almost from month 1 I realised that I had made a mistake and would never be able to settle here. Huge costly mistake - but I guess to look on the positive side - at least I've got it out of my system and now know which side of the world I want to be in!!! Lyn
I have lived on Bribie Island and its surrounding area for the first 12 months in Australia and now live in Goondiwindi 5 hours drive from Brisbane. but I must admit I love QLD but I am not a fan of city living. I think in and around Brisbane you will find plenty of variety and as with everywhere your choices will depend on where you can find work.
