    Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site and wanted to know if there is anyone out there that has managed to secure a sponsorship as a Panel Beater or if you know of anyone that would be willing to sponsor my OH.

My OH has been offered one in Melbourne but its not really where we want to move to.

    Thanks
    Lynne x

    Hiya Lynne
Have you tried the white pages,,i would get up all the body repair companys and phone them all to ask if theyre interested. Its hard to get a response when your not here and e-mails so often seem to go without reply, they cant ignore you when your on the phone, lol
    Good Luck

Hi, I know Melbourne may not be your first choice for a location, but if your OH can get sponsorship there then why not take it and see how it goes at least it would be a way into Australia. If you are there for two years you can always look around to see what is available in Queensland later. I did a Google search for Panelbeaters and came up with this list. I do not know if it will help but you can look at it anyway.

    Best of luck

    Hi srp,
My intention was to start in Melbourne and move on after a year or two but I just keep thinking how cold Melbourne is and maybe it will just be like living in the UK !!.
I have been searching the employment sites but no one seams to offer sponsorship!!. I'll just keep trying !!
Do you know how long we have to wait before we can apply for PR visa ??
    Thanks
    Lynne

Well melbourn is not that cold, look at it as a way of getting used to the Australian climate before you move to gods country in QLD. I think PR depends on your visa, But 2yrs is the norm I believe. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Well....I was told about a site that I should go on, "Panelbeaters.com.au" so I sent messages to all the body shops in the Brisbane area.
One company has contacted us asking us to send a CV and more info aboout what equiptment used and wants to know what family members will be moving.
    Fingers crossed !!!!!

Well....OH had the telephone interview !!

He asked alot about his past as we had been honest and said that he has a few convictions (before he met me !!) just for drunk & disorderly, swearing in public and affray all about 16yrs ago and then he has 1 for criminal damage in 2005...he broke a someone's car window..and was given a conditional discharge and no fine as the judge thought it should not have gone to court.

The guy that called him said that this might be a problem, also he said that he will need to pay for the 457 himself and that immigration will require him to get letters from employer where he was employed as an apprentice and also do a test.

The company is in Goldcoast but they also have branches in Perth and they have said that it is looking like Perth is the place he would be needed...not where I wanted to go as my ex-husband and his wife moved there 4yrs ago and I know its a big place..but...not big enough if you know what i mean !!.He never actually offered him the job but said his point of contact would be himself, his assistant and the migration agent and that they would be contacting us...confused !!!.
I'm not sure if they are just new to the sponsor route or if I should be very carefull !!

The company is called Gemini has anyone heard of them and have any feedback ??

We already have a job offer from a company in Melbourne and we don't need to do any of this for the 457 and also they are confident that his "past" won't be a problem, but, there is always that risk.

My head keeps telling me to stick with the Melbourne offer !!

I know it must sound like i'm being greedy with 2 job offers but I want to make sure we make the right decision.

    Hi lynne,

Its a nice problem to have if you get two job offers, I cannot advise on which would be the better offer, but whatever you decide it is not for life. You can make your choice and then in two years if the area is not for you, look into moving to another area that you want to live in. As for the convictions, well they happened 16years ago, he will probably have to include a letter explaining that it was a long time ago and he is a more mature person now. The more recent one will also need detailing and explain what happened. try to get a couple of character refferances to say that he is a good boy now . I do not think the convictions will stop you getting a visa, but you will just need to be explained and show he does not intend to repeate them. DIAC do get a bit worried if you have spent more than 12 months in prision, but even then I have heard of visas being granted. So dont worry about the convictions.

    Hiya Lynne
I agree with Colin, whichever you do decide to go for, its not forever and if in a few years you are not so sure of staying in that state then you can move on (providing you have got PR). I would go for the company who seems most stable and who have been around the longest i think.
