it looks okay, the uniforms are smart you have to buy em!, you can either buy your text books or rent them, school is very new, the new basketball/tennis courts are top of the range, they are also looking to open a soccer school of excellence, teaching subjects are a bit different, certainly in the middle school where my lad goes, he's just been away on camp for a week, early days, doesn't seem to have the same Ned culture like back in Scotland, but I am sure that its there, time will tell

Yyeah I think he is happy, slowly making friends, not just with Brits but locals too, its a nice looking place, the school is set out in a circle and they move from year to year progressing through the circle of life! My lad is 13 so he just finishing UK 1st year?Aussie Year 8. He will stay in the middle school till year 10, then go up the upper school which is on a different location from the main school!

I suppose your lassie will be in Year 6, but couldn't be sure, same as the prep year question. I do know that they arent the best at replying to emails with questions about the school. There is a new school being built 300 yards down the road from me, dont know when that will be finished!
Sorry, just read this back, not really answered your questio n have I?

Alll the best for your move

    Hi
Yeh we found that trying to get info from the school quite tricky. Do you live inthe North Lakes area? If so are you happy there, We are looking at a few properties there and intend to move early Feb. Do you know when the new school year starts, it is med Feb in Taz.
Back to the school do you have to get all uniform from the school or can you get cheeper bits and bobs else where. We have got 3 children to kit out so it will be exspensive. It,s very cold and wintery here in the UK.

Two of my sons are there as well, year 8 & 9.They started in late oct 2008 and have settled in really well. The uniform is quite expensive, around $400 for the two of them and that didn't include shoes and school bags but they have sales in the area of uniform .I think you could find out from the school or in the local area. They have this system as well where you pay so much money towards the cost of text books, school euip. etc but if you don't join this scheme you have to pay for everything individually which is quite a bit more dollars.
The school doesn't answer much coz it gets so many enquiries and every thing about the school is on the web site but once you are here they are really helpful and very quick at getting the children into school. We went to see them on the Tues. after we arrived on the Sun. and the boys were in the next wed. and that was down to us, it would have been quicker if we'd wanted.
We are happy with them there, yeah the system is different to UK schools but one of the reasons we wanted to come to aus. was for a less testing system for them.Fire away if you want to ask anything else.

Thank you for your reply. Nice to know your boys are happy. I am not sure what years my children will be in. Here in the Uk they are in Yr r, Year 4 and year 6. When does the new school year start??
We should be getting to Brisbane early Feb ( visa permitting ) my husband is due to start his Job mid Feb. We are looking to rent in North Lakes and want the Children in school as soon as poss, althought we will give them a few days maybe a week, to sort theirselves out and find their feet.

This is a very scarey thing to do, pack up and move to the other side of the world, But we are all very excited. It v cold here at the mo and we could all do with some sun and a more layed back life style. Terri

school starts end of jan so if you arrive in feb. they won't miss much of the new year so don't worry. i'm guessing they may go back a year over here, they'll still be with the right age group but yr3 and yr5 poss. it doesn't always follow as it can depend on when their birthdays fall.
Our two were in year 9& 10 in UK but have gone into yr 8&9 now but will move back into yr 9&10 when new school year starts.
have a look on realestate.com.au for rentals. we got ours while still in the UK and it was great as we didn't need holiday accomodation when we got here.Only down side is we are having to wait till early jan for our furniture.
i'm not sure about a more laid back life, my hubby still hasn't got a job and its been pretty hectic since we arrived(bout 7 wks ago) but its all been good and don't worry its not scary and you'll soon find your feet.Send me a pm if you need any more help.
weather has been beautiful last few days, really hot and sunny but thunder is on for wed and rain for few days after that so you do still get it but it knows when to stop , not like in UK which it never did where we lived in Kendal(Cumbria)!
