    Hiya Nick
Plumbers do have it tough when they arrive in Qld as their UK qualifications mean next to nothing over here. For most guys a college course is required to bring you up to Aussie Spec before you can work alone. Depending on what up to date qualifications you have there are certain sections you have to complete before you can have a Qld Plumbing Licence.

But first you need a visa, lol,,,,,

To start you need to have your skills assessed by Vetassess (if i am right presuming you are currently in the UK) ,this link should give you some good information on what is required of you to gain a positive assesment,,

At the moment state sponsorship is proving popular as these visas are being processed much quicker than a standard skilled visa . You will however have to check that QLD are still sponsering your profession.
When we applied for a visa i enrolled an agent to help as there is sooo much paperwork to complete. If you don't want to do that most agents will give you a free telephone consultation and at least point you in the right direction.

Job wise, the Gold Coast is a bit slow like most populated areas, sites like www.alljobs.com.au and www.seek.com should give you a guide of what work is about, just be aware you will not be fully licensed for a good few months after arrival.

Hope this helps a little and good luck with everything
    Cal x
