I was happy in Sydney......and certainly had more friends there - I get homesick for Sydney at times because of that.......but MUCH prefer living here.

Yes it takes time to make new friends doesnt it, well good ones anyway, i found when i first arrived here i made friends with everyone and anyone and thought it was great, but as time goes on you realise that perhaps you dont have so much in common after all or maybe their not the friends you thought they were, so i now have lots of aquaintances and a few real good friends and that ok with me. One thing about living here as apposed to the Uk, i have found anyway that there are lots more places and groups you can join to make friends, there always seems to be something going on.

That's EXACTLY what I have found. People always say to me - but you know heaps of people......well yes, I do, but most of them, as you say are acquaintances, not friends.

yes, once you realise that its ok, its when you think everyone is your friend that your in trouble, i think often we are to eager for everyone to be our friend once we are here, becuase we ve left all our long time friends and family behind, where as normally back in the uk we would make friends more gradually over the years.

Looking to relocate to Brisbane in next 12 months

    Hi Everyone
I am new to this posting stuff, so apologies if I get this wrong..........
My partner, son and I are looking to relocate to Australia in the next year. We are going to London's EXPO 2010 this weekend to get more details and hopefully start our visa applications. The agents we have seen so far tell us to head for Melbourne as that is where my partners qualifications/experience is in demand, but the more I read on Brisbane the more I get drawn. What is the job market like in Brisbane? my partner is qualified in IT/Project Management and I am a Sales Manager. Are these agents on commission to try and get people to locate to certain areas? thanks

    Hi Tracie

Welcome to the forum. The market for IT is probably most bouyant in Sydney, followed by Melbourne. However, We live in Brisbane and my husband has found no problem getting work here - he is in IT. I would say go where YOU want to. There are jobs out there.

    Love

    Hi Les
I know alot of nurses here and they all found it easy to get work some of them had jobs before they even got here.

sounds like you have alot of experience to, im not an expert, but there is alot of building going on in the area we live so im sure someone who is as experienced as you wouldnt find it hard to get work, lots of show homes ect, im not sure how the qualifications hold up here for painter and decorators, i know some trades people have to take different tests when they get here because the qualifications are different but i dont think that the case for your trade but it would be a good idea to check on the emmigration website just to make sure.
i cant help you about the sponsorship im not sure how it all works to be honest but i think as your partner is a nurse she should be able to get you in anyway without a sponsor.
