Where possible the best chance of securing work is if you can approach the company in person, rather than by e-mail or phone and sell yourself to them, this has worked for many migrants.
It is always harder to secure your first 'Áussie' employer, but once you have worked for one firm it seems to be a little easier to secure other work.
Don't rely on websites like seek and career one etc, try to pick up the local papers that cover yours and surrounding areas as many smaller company's advertise this way. Keep an eye on shop notice boards and don't be afraid to place a ''looking for work'' notice up in the local shopping centers , newsagents etc.
If all else fails you may have to broaden your search a little, which would mean a longer commute but if you can put up with the travelling until something better comes along it may be the way to go.
Hope this helps a little and sending you lots of luck
