Hi, I'm Lisa, married to Brian with two daughters, Eleanor (11) and Lucie (9). We have just appointed an agent to act for us in our move to Brisbane and are very excited. However, we are looking for anybody who can help answer regarding Brian's job. He is a fully qualified Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Engineer and his job is on the Skills in Demand list. When we look up jobs there seem to be several but is this truly the case? Also most say "must be able to work in Australia to apply for this job". Does this mean we must have had our visas granted before he can apply for anything.

    Any responses hugely appreciated.

    Lisa:smile:

    Hi Lisa
    Welcome to the BIB,.

It means, you must be able to prove to them that you have a visa that allows you to work in Australia. If you are looking for sponsorship, then try emailing these companies to see if they would be interested.
If you are looking to come over independently, without sponsorship then you may have to wait until a visa is granted to get interest from these companies.

Just a thought that if you are looking for sponsorship then phoning companies may get better results, emails can be ignored or forgotten.

Thanks Colin, that's much appreciated. We see there are quite a few jobs at the moment in Brisbane for ref engineers so fingers crossed!

    Hi Lisie,

if you send the CV by email the Australians like a cover letter. Just with basic info, they read that and then decide if they want ot read the CV, Try to keep it relativly short, but interesting, so they will want to read more and look at the CV.
