    Hello all,

I am only a newbie to posting on this site but have read lots of posts over the months. My husband and I along with our 12 yr old daughter moved to South Australia in April, only to quickly find that SA is not for us. We had originally wanted to move to Queensland but for many reasons ended up in Adelaide. We are now wanting to make the move to Queensland and are looking at either Brisbane or the Gold Coast. I am a Primary Teacher, so obtaining anything other than TRT is a Mission Impossible (or rather it feels like that) and my husband has just obtained his HR and Forklift licence. His background in the UK is as a bus driver, then many years in the chemical industry as a process worker then moving onto Security Supervisor and finally when the chemical firm was closed down he worked as an Assistant Site Manager (caretaker) for a large Secondary school and kept his hand in with part time bus driving. The problem for my husband is that he doesn't have any formal qualifications, and it seems that years of experience does not count for much here either. Had we known this before we moved we would have held on in the Uk to save more money to cover the cost of retraining but money is getting tighter and we are getting very despondent with the job search at the minute. It seems it is a case of who you know and not what you know. If anybody out there is looking for a hardworking person who has many transferable skills with a newly obtained HR & Forklift licence we would be glad to hear from you. Our fear is that if we cannot succeed on the job front then we may have to go back to the UK, something none of us want to do!!

    Cheers all.

Thanks Cal we are hoping Aussie experience comes our way soon while we are in SA. Even if it takes us another year to make the move to QLD, I'm sure it will be worth it. Would just be nice if we (along with lots of other people no doubt) could find someone who would give us the opportunity to show how hard we can work.

Im sure he would find work driving the buses here, be it public or school buses.. They're alwaysssss advertising for drivers, so may be worth a try.

Hi Angie, we have only been in OZ 6 months and are in Adelaide at the moment. However, it is really not the place for us and we are now at our wits end regarding jobs. I am a Primary Teacher and getting a job is like Mission Impossible, my husband has just got his HR and forklift licence and we thought we should make the move sooner than later. Also, although my skill as a teacher got us out here, I don't think it's going to keep us here and I have no idea what other jobs I could do, although I probably have many transferable skills, just not the numerous Cert 111s you seem to have to possess!! I thought about retraining as a Speech Therapist and it appears to be cheaper to study on the GC than it is here in SA. Decisions, decisions, it would be nice to meet up if or fingers crossed when we get over there.
