    Hello,
I am new to the site and am in the process of trying to decide when is the best time for us to move to Oz. I am particularly concerned about my 6 year Old daughter and school. Would love to know how other families/kids managed the move and if you decided to start the children in their new Aussie schools at the beginning of the Aus school year (Jan/Feb?) or did you wait til the end of the British school year and start the kids in their new schools in Oz in August/ September time? Of course there are many things to consider in the decision, but that is one of my thoughts.

    Any comments greatly received!
    Many thanks
    Jo

    Hi Jo

I think it all depends on when you arrive in OZ. We arrived in early November, spent a few weeks finding an area and rental, sourced a school and was advised to keep my son off until the new school year in January due to the current term only having a few weeks left.

Of course if you arrive mid-year you dont want to keep them for ages so they would start soon as. I know children are enrolling all year round at my childrens school so really it will depend on your circumstances.

    Hope this helps a bit

    Hi Jo
I don't think there's any right or wrong answer. When we moved a few years ago, we came over around July time. We spent the first few weeks getting everything sorted - house rentals etc, then took a month off for a holiday and travelled round Oz a bit, did the theme parks etc, just to unwind after the stresses of emigrating. Once we got back, there was probably about 8 weeks left of the school year. Our youngest son could have gone in to prep, but we didn't enroll him until the start of the next school year in January, so he'd start at the same time as all the other new prep's. We enrolled our eldest son and he did the last 8 weeks in Year 6 at primary school, which gave him chance to make a couple of friends, who then went to the same Secondary school as him in the new year.
    All the best.
    Rob

Thank you both for your replies, I guess a lot of it also depends on when we get the visa!
