    Hi all.
Just wondering what peoples views were on the proposed broadband network, some people think it would be a waste of tax payers money. Do those of you that live there agree or do you think its the way forward? Would be interesting to hear you views.

    Hi Steve,

That’s going to be a tough one to answer, personally where I live I get a speed in excess of 20mbps, but I am only 20 meters from the exchange. When I lived near Brisbane my average speed was 5Mbps and I was expecting it to be slower where I am now, so I was amazed at the speeds available here.
Some parts of the country are still on dial up, others have to rely on satellite connections and some on broadband still get comparative low speeds. So it will depend where people live as to what their opinion will be. On the whole I think the national system needs to be upgraded. I am lucky there are areas near major cities that still have no access to broadband.

Thanks, my opinionis that you should definately go for it. The thing people dont realise is that other than the fact everyone gets the chance of a decent speed, If your fibreoptic network gives you a choice of say 5, 10 and 20mb which is realistic and reliable, there isnt a limit to the speed it can end up at in the future as the capacity on the fibre is massive. At the moment we have a reliable 50mb and there are trials on 100mb and thats for home use. Im sure as well that it must be usefull for rural buisiness' to have a decent reliable speed to stay competative and efficient.

If Julia Gillard stays in power then 100Mbps will be the minimum that they are expecting, If Tony Abbot gets into power then it will be no where near as fast. Its just a case of wait and see what will happen.
