Hi everyone - we are hoping to return to Australian within the next year. We left Brisbane 12 years ago and came back to Scotland for family reasons, but are now wanting to bring our family up in Queensland (5 children aged 15 (she was born in Redcliffe but has no memories of Australia), 7, 5, 2 and 1 year old. We are living in a small town in Scotland of 8,000 and the nearest large city is 145,000 and we found living in the big cities in Australia not for us (we tried Melbourne and Adelaide as well), but we did find the size of Townsville closer to what we were used to. We have thought about the Gold Coast because it is not too far from Brisbane (our 5 year old daughter has a medical condition and the specialists would be at the Royal Children's Hospital there) and the overall population seems to be half the size of Brisbane. Just looking for any experiences of living on the Gold Coast and the best areas to live. We took out Australian Citizenship when we are there so only need to get our other children certificates of citizenship by descent and passports and our house sold here and we are ready to go.

    Thank you.

Just replying to your thread, we live in the Redlands area of outerbrisbane butvisitthe gold coast often, if we were to move to gold coast we would move to tweed heads, cooloongatta and currimbin, these are all nice places, not too big, not glitzy like surfers, good or family, nice beaches, good for surfing, and not too far from Brisbane hospitals.
    hope this helps.

The mid to southern end of the Gold Coast is my favorite too but it wouldnt be a nice commute into Brisbane, the highway can be a nightmare.
