  1. Hi,

When we move we'll be bringing our 2008 Jeep Wrangler with us and were just wondering if there any costs/taxes that we may be charged or if there were any problems we may encounter in doing so?

    Many Thanks

    Jennie

    Hi,

On our sister site "Pomsinoz" we have a permanent thread running that deals with questions on importing cars.

    http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/trans...ing-your-car-oz-everything-you-need-know.html

Click on the above link and you should be able to find the answers to your question, "Iron chief" who runs the thread is very good at information and telling you how to get permission to import and the costs involved.

  3. Why bother? I can't see any sense in that at all. Sell it and buy another over here.

there are import taxes involved and then it will need to pass insection over here and pay more tax. there are jeep sales rooms here around but one word of warning we had an imported jeep and it kept overheating and a number of mecanics told us it was beacause they are not really built for australian summers!!!

We looked briefly into bringing our car but there did seem to be a bit of hassle and we decided against it in the end. The re sale value is rubbish as it would be classed as a grey import and 'some' insurers are hesitant when they realise its an import,,, However if you do click on the thread Colin gave above ,lots of people have succesfully brought their cars so i think it does boil down to personal prefernce and funds available.

    Good Luck with everything

    Hi there,

Same as Cal, we looked at importing our car but in the end it was stressing us out too much and seemed to be a bottomless pit. No-one could give us a final figure of what we'd be looking at spending to import it and taxes, import duty, cost of shipping were only small parts of it - what really worried me was how much it would cost to make the car compliant after it arrived (can't be given a figure until it's here and a specialised mechanic looks at it, apparently, and then you're over a barrel because the car's here and what can you do but pay whatever they say is necessary) but also the fact that you cannot drive it until it's been through all its checks and updates, which means getting a tow truck to take it here there and everywhere. I'm really glad to hear that others on the other thread have successfully brought theirs over, though. It just was a bit too much for us to manage but good to know it's been done. Good luck!

    J

PS - I REALLY miss my car and wish I did have it here, though!
