Hi everyone. We have just sold our house and hoping to be in the Redlands area of Brisbane in November. We are pretty nervous and just wanting to know if the recession has hit Brissie like the UK? Also how have peoples lifes changed for the better over there? We have a good life in the UK and hope we are doing the right thing emigrating. We did come over in April 08 to activate our visas and really enjoyed the city and surrounding areas.

Cheers and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hiya
As we know everyone leads a different lifestyle , so whats good for one maybe terrible for another.
For us moving here gave us the opportunity to live mortgage free, we could never have done this in the UK. We went from a 3 bed semi to a lovely house with a pool on 2 acres.
The kids seem to be thriving, we are an outdoor family and i am happy to say the Playstation has been used maybe 2 or 3 times in the last 2 years! The kids would much rather be out on their bikes, in the pool etc.
There is no deneying the recession has affected the amount of jobs on offer, again your profession will determine how quick you can land a job. Construction trades seem to be hardest hit right now.

I think if you come with an open mind and are determined to make it work there is no reason why it shouldn't. It is like starting adult life all over again so live within your means and for now live the lifestyle you can afford not try to make the lifestyle thats just out of your reach (or it will send you potty!), more than anything move out here and have fun, the Queenslanders are known for being lazy but after a few years living with them i now wonder if they have it right and it is us poms who are work obsessed! lol
    Good Luck with everything
