Hello all, me and my family have all arrived in Brisbane now. My wife and kids arrived 3 weeks ago and I arrived 2 days ago. We're having real trouble finding somewhere to live though. The rental market is so fierce here. Part of the problem is getting estate agents to call back or even answer queries when we call them. We're living with my wife's sister so we're not homeless but really want our own place.

Can anyone offer any advice? I have thought about just making a list and going to the estate agent's offices in the hope of it being harder for them to just fob us off face to face.

You learn quickly here that next to no-one EVER call you back, regradless if its an Estate agent, prospective Employer or anyone, frustrating but you get used to 'chasing'.

In relation to rentals, once you have pin pointed an area, i think you are much better to pop into the agents and see whats available, try and strike up conversation and 'make them friends' ,also have all your paperwork copied ready to submit with applications and a covering letter explaining your new to the country ,hence lack of Australian refernces.
Its also worth having a 'back up' area (or 2) as some suburbs have limited rental houses and because of this they can be likes hens teeth to secure.

Hope this helps a little and good luck
