  1. Hi,
this is our first post so hope i am doing it right! We are awaiting a decision on our visa having just submitted our medicals, police checks etc. We are planning to move to Brisbane but not sure which area as yet. My partner is a tiler and will soon be looking for work and i am a peadiatric nurse and health visitor. I know it is a long shot but does anyone know if health visitors or similar exist in Brisbane? I have looked at jobs advertised and can't quite figure out what the situation is. Also does anyone know how easy or difficult it is to find child care? If the decion on our visas goes our way i'm guessing the following few months are going to be a bit frantic and any advice is gratefully received!

    cheers,
    Liz and Stu:eek:

Hiya welcome to BIB, we left Bury nearly 3 yrs ago and havent looked back yet.
Child care is readily available across all brisbane suburbs, there are varying types to suit most peoples requirements.
Good Luck with the visa and i hope you hear soon

Hi liz, my husband is a tiler and we are looking to go out to Brisbane we have friends who have just landed out there a week ago. Can I ask are you applying on your occupation or your partners? We are undecided as to what we should do as Wall and Floor Tilers are on the Critical list but we can't find any job adverts:confused:
many thanks and good luck Andrea and Jason Miles ,Great Harwood x
Oh a health visitor I know says that in Australia they also like you to be qualified to deliver babies aswell !

  4. Hi Andrea, we are going on a skilled independent visa on my skills as a nurse. We found it was loads easier with my occupation as the nursing council in the Uk sent information to their counterpart in oz, so it was a paper exercise as opposed to Stuart needing to get a workplace assessment as a tiler. As far as jobs for Stu, he has contacted several employers who seem keen to offer him a job and asked him to contact them when we arrive so he hope to line up some meeting before we fly out. Every company he has contacted seemed keen but none of them were advertising. He is quite lucky that he specializes in tiling swimming pools and mosaics which he has been told is more in demand. He has also completed his blue card on line which is some sort of trade health and safety thing you need. What is your occupation Andrea? Have you started the visa process yet? We have been quite lucky, we applied in Feb this year and are now waiting for a final decision which i'm told may only be weeks off. Do you plan on using a migration agent? We couldn't justify the 3 grand they were asking for so i've done it all myself which was easier than i thought, i am now i self taught expert on the process!! Good luck, keep in touch, Liz & Stu x

    Hi Liz & Stu
I havn't worked for several years due to having kiddies! So my qualifications don't count any more. I think we are going to use a migration agent but Jasons going to do his AQF111 over here first.
Your journey through the visa process has been really quick you must be so happy at the speed of things. Things for us aren't going as quickly as we would like may have to wait another year but it is being looked into.
Good luck with your move and we will keep intouch

    Hi Liz and Stuart,
Hope you have had a good Bank Holiday. Jason also does mosaics but has yet to tile a swimming pool, there doesn't seem be be to much of a demand in Blackburn!! (our footballers are obviously not paid as much) He would be really interested in learning what is involved. Do you think Stuart would possibly be able to give us the details of a few firms in uk that may be able to give Jay a go?
He'd do it FOC just for the experience. God how we want to be in OZ have just got back from a very wet and muddy Settle!
    Take care
