Im an "Aussie chick" married to an English guy. Been in the UK 10yrs and moving to Brisbane in Dec 2012. We have 2 kids - 4 & 1.

Im originally from Newcastle, NSW and do not know v much about BNE bar a small visit once a few yrs ago. My brothers live in BNE.

When we decided to move our family of 4 to Australia we assumed we were heading to Sydney as it was the area Im familiar with. But, I wasnt happy about jumping from the fat of London, into the fire of Sydney. I cannot justify the cost of living in Sydney..is not THAT great

So..we felt BNE is the size city we could call a home. We absolutely cannot wait to start our BNE adventure. Ive bought lots of hair products to combat my bad hair days with the humidity
2 more sleeps until the dreading flight..but, its 1 step closer to finally arriving

    Nice to meet you all

    Hi,

I hope it all goes well for you.

Keep us informed of your new life, and Brisbane is not humid everyday so your hair should be fine. Do you know where in Brisbane you will be settling?

    Thanks srp

We have secured a rental in Auchenflower. We were lucky to apply from the UK and be approved. I had my brother do the viewing. It just means I dont have to hit the pavement house hunting. Our furniture is already in Oz, so its a matter of arriving and arranging the removalists to turn up. Now I have an address I have enrolled my daughter into school, already set up broadband/foxtel to turn on the day we arrive...yep, I really am this organised

I figured the internet shows me so much about the house ..ad I trust my brothers opinion..so, in the bad event I hate the house, we just move when the lease is up. The downside is we took up the lease 2 weeks before we arrive so Im paying rent on a place I dont yet live in! But it was worth it for me. Too much was riding on an address and I wanted my daughter enrolled in school before school broke up for xmas holidays

cannot wait to get there and check out my new house

    Hi

No secret, just called up and advised the school admin lady we are arriving. She asked my street, I told her. She sent the forms , I submit and all good  my daughter turns 5 June 26 next yr...and the rules state Prep kids need to be 5 by June 30..so she scraped in by a few days. But, as shes just done the first 3 mths of Reception in the UK, Im not worried about her being the youngest. She's really outging and totally ready for school. I think ging back to Nursery would demotivate her

Ah ha! Yes I get it now!! My son is 5 next week and starts prep in January, he started Year 1 in Edinburgh in August so is definitely ready for it too. He was one of the youngest there as the cut off is February so it's good being a boy that he will be middle range here. Good luck with everything. Let me know if you need any help with anything. Jane
