    Hi,
We are moving to the Maroochy area in November 2011 and are looking for a house to rent. I've seen all the advice about holiday lets etc but finding one of these to cover us from November to January is proving difficult to say the least. (Unless the rental is exorbitant anyway!)
I've been looking on classifieds at private houses coming available to let but most are within the next month or so.
Can anyone advise sympathetic contacts who can offer 3 - 6 month rentals in the area for migrating families like us please?
    Thanks Claire.

Unfortunately you will not be able to rent until you get here as you have to view the property before they can consider letting it out to you. That is why most go for holiday lets for the first few weeks. Don't go by the price you see on web sites. Contact the Holiday accommodation and ask what price they can offer you for a let of "X" amount of weeks. you should be able to get some discount for a longer let.

Hopefully others will be able to offer more advice and possibly names of places to try.

    Hi Claire
Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, holiday style furnished accommodation will be extremely expensive as it's peak season over the Christmas/Summer holiday period. It's the same all over, we know people who are moving to Melbourne at Christmas and are facing exactly the same problem with sky high prices, and as Colin says, longer term lets generally require you to be in the country and have viewed the property before signing a rental agreement.
Keep checking gumtree, maybe look at online versions of the local papers to browse the classifieds and along with realestate, domain etc, try other sites like rentfind.com.au etc.

Thank you for your advice. It feels like someone has missed an opportunity with such limited short term accomodation bookable from the UK - maybe I should go into business when I get there............. I'll keep looking in the private ads and hoping someone understanding of the situation is looking for a nice family to look after their home for a while.

    Thanks again, Claire

    Hi Clarie

There is HEAPS of accommodation available for those booking from the UK!!! Have you had a look at Stayz and Takeabreak?

Usually people would not look to rent for more than about 4-6 weeks in a short term let, so that they have time to look around for a more permanent rental. A permanent rental is usually then rented on a 6-12 month contract.

Honestly - I would not sign up to a 3-6 month contract from the UK, without having seen where you are renting and whats around you. You could end up in an absolute hell hole. I was chatting with a friend the other day who is looking to buy at the moment. She saw a fabulous house on the internet......and then took a drive by. She said it was AWFUL and the surrounding area was the absolute pits. Renting the wrong home can be an absolute make or break for some people. A bad first experience can send you back to the UK in the blink of an eye.

    Hi
Give www.domain.com.au , www.stayze.com.au , www.ozrentals.com.au , www.realestate.com.au as Rudi said earlier just be careful of committing yourselves to long term rent until you have viewed the properties. Through personal experience and guests that have stayed with us, have found that what looks great on the internet are actually disgusting and not what they seem when you view them personally.

Another good site is http://www.ozhousesitters.com.au, it's similar to the house sitting sites listed previously.
