Hi everyone, my partner not long left us here in the UK to start his new job in the mines in Emerald. We are planning to join him hopefully in June time. I am very nervous yet excited for our new family adventure. I have recently joined pomsinoz also so i can get some research done (as not much has been done up to now). I know very little about life down under and im hoping being a member on here will offer some great advice and help me plan our big move. At the moment we do not know where we are going to live in Queensland we have a few options but it is finding the right place for us that is proving to be quite hardwork. Coastal areas with lovely beaches and good schooling are important to us. We do not have to live in close proximity to Emerald as my partner will only be commuting once every two weeks hopefully. We have the option to even reside on the sunshine coast if we want to as my partner could do fly ins to work but whether this is going to be afforable and practical i am not quite sure. Something that i definately need to look into. I have been looking at areas such as Rockhampton, Yeppoon and Mackay but not sure if these places will match my desire to want be on the sunshine or Gold coast. I cannot believe that in the next few months we will be residing in Oz, seems like there is sooooo much to do in so little time. Eeeeeeeeek. I am very interested in any insight you can offer me to any areas that you think may be best suited us and even just general information on life in Queensland! As i will be looking after the children full time i want to be able to take them out and about and enjoy the outdoors with them as much as possible (something you can rarely do in rainy cold, england). I want to live in a friendly, safe area with good value for money properties (to rent). I am looking to meet new friends......any mummys out there with young children please come and say hi id be very happy to hear from you. I have two young children aged 1 and 3.
Hi Lilypop, Welcome to the site, as you will see we are quieter and more refined on this site, compared to PIO.. Not sure how many members we have here to advise on the the different areas that are available for you to live in. If your OH is thinking of FIFO to his workplace do his employers provide the transport, Some employers charter smaller planes to do the FIFO part of the job and they tend to fly from the smaller airports, Its worth checking out what arrangements his employer has for that sort of thing.
Hi and welcome to LIQ. We went up to 1770 and Agnes Water and quite a few familys up that way have a family member working in the mines. There wasnt loadsss to do but there was some lovely beaches and coastal areas. Have a look around Gladstone and Rocky too as i believe a lot of mine workers familys live there. Cal x
Hi Lillypop, my name is Karen and Im emigrating in Aug with my husband Nige and 2 boys Oscar8 and Aaron4, we are renting in Runaway Bay for 6 weeks while we look around the Gold Coast area. helensvale looks nice and very affordable, but we also loved the look of Hope Island. My husband is looking for a job in sales and there seems to be lots of choice around the Southport area, he has a problem with his eyes so hoping not to have to drive too far to work. Have you been over before? Karen xx
