    Hi all
arriving in Brisbane in October, a family of four, on a 457 visa sponsored by Queensland Health. What is Medicare and will we be entitled to it or will we have to have private health insurance or both? Is it expensive? How soon will we have to arrange this?
    Cheers all

    Hi Tony and Marie

You will get Medicare, but it's for emergency use only......except that if you consider something an emergency and need to go to the doctors for it them it will be fine LOL. i am not sure about the rules for your visa and private healthcare. But bear in mind, private healthcare here is not the same as the UK - you pay each month AND you still have to pay if you see a specialist or something, just not quite as much as if you did not have private healthcover!

Have you had a look at Stayz or Takeabreak? They do short term accommodation. Also google for "headstart homestay" they are Brits who also have short term accommodation.

    Hope that helps
