Hey everyone, hope all is well.
I was just wandering how far in advance did everyone book there flights to Brisbane. We are hoping to get there around the first week of September 2010. Oh we havnt booked our shipping container either, any views on that would be great too.
    Have a great weekend everyone

    Hi Fiona,

Well I do not think my time scale will help you much, My wife had already moved to Australia while I applied for visa. Visa arrived on Monday, flights booked Tuesday, Flew out following Sunday.

You could find it usefull to look at the various airline sites and if they have a newsletter, sign up for it as this is quite often the way they announce their special offers. Early September could be a good time to fly because it should not be to busy and you may get a decent price. If that is still possible these days.

One suggestion I would have is that if you fly out on an A380 you try to get seats on the upper deck as it is quieter, less crowded and the staff seem to have more time to look after you.

    Hiya

Its ideal to try and time your shipment to arrive in Brisbane around a similar to you. This way by the time you have secured a rental house your container should have cleared customs and be ready for delivery.
Its much easier to do without bits in the UK were you have people to lend you things rather than here and knowing no-one who can help.
Most people get 3 or 4 quotes for shipping before comitting to a company, find one you feel happy with and remember cheapest isnt always best when theyre in charge of your worldly possesions.

  4. Shipment of your furniture and larger goods shouldn't be a problem as removalists most of the time have spare space on huge containers. We booked six months in advance, but I'm sure we could have gotten away with shorter notice.
The most important thing is the flights if you want the best deals. We also booked (with Emirates) six months in advance, making sure we had good connections so our kids wouldn't suffer too much from the long journey (we ended up leaving Europe on a sunday at 5pm and arriving in Brisbane on the Tuesday at 6 am, with barely any jet lag at all!). We booked the flights six months in advance, not even knowing if the visa would be granted. It's a bit of a gamble, but it adds to the excitement of the whole experience!
