Hopefully moving up (just north of GC) at the begining of july and was wondering what the general work situation is like. From what I can gather things are pretty tight in the construction game (which is where I work as a fibrous plasterer) at the moment, anybody got any input?????

Willing to try something else for work just don't know where to start looking and what for etc...... Any areas in demand more so than others????

I think everywere has slowed down to be honest and your right in saying construction seems hardest hit. Whilst looking for work as a plasterer i would just keep a close eye on the papers and jobs sites as to what unskilled work is about.
On the other hand due to so many properties being damaged in the recent storms hopefully some tradies will see an increase in repair/replace work on houses.

Hi, I moved up here S.A. a month ago. Thinking there would be loads of work. I'm a carpenter and went as far up as Bowen N.Qld. And found town after town with deserted sub-divisions and builders telling me the same story. It's quiet mate. Sorry no work here! If you have work I'd stay were you are for now.

I hear what you are saying and you are just confirming what I have heard on the grapevine. I have work where I am but there are no guarantees that is going to keep going, things have been slowing up here and I have been having days off and hours cut etc...... We are moving so I will just have to try to make a go of it somehow,

    Thanks Chris
