Hi to everyone from a newbie. My wife and I are due to arrive in Brisbane towards the end of November and going to live on Bribie Island with our son who is a paramedic. We are sitting in an empty house having just waved goodbye to a container with all our wordly goods therein and now have the task of saying goodbye to our friends and relatives. On the plus side we are looking forward to spending time with our grandsons(3) and settling in toa new life. Anybody looking for a gardener please speak as I think I will need to work to pay for this visa we have just shelled out for

    Hi, Welcome to the site.

I lived on Bribie Island for 12 months when we first arrived here and it is a lovely place. We have a few members on there and one of the local police officers is member of our sister site PomsInOz, His name on there is Mr Lovepants, but please do not go around asking the local police if they are Lovepants, it may not go down to well..

Bribie has a good shopping area and just off the island is a fruit barn that you may find useful for cheaper fruit and veg. Caboolture about 15min drive away as a very large shopping area (Morayfield), and in Caboolture itself there is a discount butcher.

You may find that advertising your skills as a gardener will find you some work. A lot of properties are rentals on there and they often employ people to just cut the grass for them. Let the local agents know who you are as they are often after gardeners to maintain some properties. We used to use a gardener to cut our grass when in a rental on there and paid $40 for 1/2 hours work.

Good Luck with your travels, its warming up nicely here so you will arrive at a nice warm time of year.
I would put some ad's up around Bribie when you arrive for gardening / handyman work and try to get some local work. Dont forget to get ABN if your not working for someone.
