    Hi there. New user here.

I am looking at doing a student course in Brisbane for a couple of years in the near future. This would mean bringing over my family which consists of my wife and 2 children aged 7 & 5.
As I would be coming over on a student visa and therefore paying for the course, does anyone know if I would also have to pay for the children to attend school, and if so how much the fees are?

    Many thanks
    Steve

will give you an email addres to contact to get the right answer.

Normally education is relatively free for the school-aged dependants of permanent resident, business skills, provisional and temporary resident visa holders.

    Good luck

  4. Hello Steve, we came here on a student visa a couple of years ago, and basically, you have to pay for EVERYTHING. Even if you got your kids into a state school (which technically you can' t) you would still have to pay the equivilent of a private education, which is approx $2000 per kid per term.
Also, you will need private health insurance, as you won't get Medicare. Depending on your course, you may be able to claim some tax allowance on it. If you need any more info please let me know. Good luck, Peter

    Hi Peter.

Thanks for the reply. Well done for getting out there and doing it. Will you be able to apply for permanent residency once you finish studying?
I thought it was going to cost a lot of money to support the family. I could not afford it all with 2 young kids and 1 on the way.
I have decided to re-train in this country in a profession that is not only needed in Australia but all over the world, teaching. It will take a few years but I am willing to give it a go.
    Hope all goes well.
    Steve.
