Hi all iv been all clear now since March 2011, just over a year! but im having three month check ups here in the uk, i just wondered as were looking to move to Australia within the next 6 months, am i still going to be able to get my 3/6 month check ups? Obviously i understand im going to have to pay and have no idea how much this will cost me? Any help/advice would be very greatful!

When you arrive you and are settled in, go and see the doctor and explain the situation, They will normally refer you to a consultant and it will depend who you see (Public or private doc) as to the costs involved. if you are referred to a public consultant you may not have to pay anything. A private consultant will charge and normally it is claimed back against your insurance, however as you will not be covered for pre-existing conditions for 12 months. If you are sent for X-Rays or scans you normally have to phone to make the appointment at the X-Ray clinic. When you phone to make the appointment ask what has to be paid. You should be able to claim some of the expense for treatment from Medicare.

Medicare can have your bank details ( Once registered with Medicare you can then go on-line to register for an on-line access to Medicare and from there you can set up direct refunds to your bank account)and send refunds direct to you bank, that will save you having to visit a Medicare office or post off for your rebates.

 

I have used the public system for a number of years now both for Pap smears (as theyre called here) and my other medical condition. I havent paid for anything ,other than the odd appointment at my local none bulk billing GP.
