Hi all hope you can advise :)

I will be arriving (no partner/husband) in Brisbane end of February beginning of march with 3 children age 22 months, 13 (nearly 14) and 15. Studying in greenslopes (Logan road) and the kids will be going to holland park, unsure about childcare yet. I've decided (from advise on here :))!!) to live around holland park but still unsure where ...? Wondered if a car was necessary or will public transport be enough do you think? I'm trying to keep my costs as low as possible coz its a tight budget ! Also if I arrive and start looking for a long term rental straight away could you advise on how long the process will take to finalise securing somewhere and moving in once I've found a place? Coz once again, I'll be in furnished when we arrive and trying to keep costs down so ideally need to move into rented long term ASAP

    Many thanks everyone x

Honestly, I think a cheap car would be the best thing. If you have young children, it's comforting to know that you can get to them if you need to, without having to rely on public transport.

    That's just my opinion.

Finding a suitable rental is the hardest bit ,you could look at 10 and not like any or the first one view you may be perfect,, this can be what takes the time. When you have found one you like and submit an application, you normally wait around 2 or 3 days for an answer. The overall process can take up to 4 weeks.
My tips would be - Have everything ready to submitt with your application as some agents won't photo copy your paperwork for you.
    - Double check with the agent what date the property is availble (should also say this on the ad)
    - Enclose a letter stating your new the country, have a job at xxxxx and will be earning xxxxx,, its good if your new boss can write this.

As for private or public transport, i too would buy a cheap runaround, public transport here can be hit and miss.
