    Hi Scott,

    Welcome to BIB,

I presume you are a younger couple because that is the sort of thing I would have done when i was younger, Just turn up and see how it goes, .

However now with an older head can I offer a couple of suggestions...

Find accommodation before you arrive, a lot of people look for holiday accommodation or hostels. With Holiday accommodation you may be able to negotiate a decent deal for a few weeks accommodation whilst you settle in and sort yourselves out. Just turning up you may end up paying top prices out of the necessity to find somewhere to sleep.

What type of Visa are you arriving on and what sort of work will you be looking for, if you let us know, some members of BIB may be able to offer advice about the best places and areas to look for work.

Good luck with your adventure and I hope it all goes well for you. Ask any questions you want, we do not guarantee being able to offer advice on everything but will do our best when possible to point you in the right direction.

    Hiya Guys
Welcome to BIB,, i agree with Colin you are better trying to secure accommodation before you arrive,, places get booked up months in advance. As their are only 2 of you you may find some hotels available at the last minute but you will be paying top whack .

Same goes with a hire car,,, don't leave it till you arrive as you could find theres none left when you land at the airport (has happened to people i know twice), the last thing you want after a long flight is to be stuck at the first hurdle.

Other than that Brissy is a fab place and im sure you will love what awaits you

    hey thanks guys,
yes let me just explain my situation a bit better.we are both aged 24-26,and both have obtained working holiday visa's, that last a year as you know..
never been to oz before.heard lots of great things about brisbane so decided to get our flights directly there.we want to travel around oz and do the backpacker thing, but no idea how or where to start.would like to spend some time in brisbane first, get used to our suroundings.ive been lookin at cheap hostels online.we have to keep bearing in mind we will be travelling on the minimum amount of cash as we dont have much to take.so ideally finding some work in brisbane area when we get there would be great,as we would probably stay there for a while then.we both not fussy or choosy about what kind of work .
i was flicking through a travelling magazine in my newsagents and just happened to come across an advert for this forum,so thats how i found out bout this site.

    Hi scott,

you may find gumtree useful for finding jobs and cheap accomodation..

    http://brisbane.gumtree.com.au/f-Jobs-W0QQCatIdZ9302

There are always the bars and clubs looking for staff, but if you do get stuck look out for call centre work, there is normally a lot of that about.

Keep an eye on BIB for meet ups that happen occasionally and when you move around let us know where you are. we like to know how people get on when they have arrived. Then we can pass on any information on experiances you have to help others.
