Hi all, just wondered if anyone has any idea whether we can extend our 136 skilled visa by a few months. It runs out in May 2012 but we think we could do with a few more months to get everything sorted - school term finishing, house sold (or rented out if we cant), etc. I cant find anything on Australia House's web site so instead of phoning them I wondered if anyone has gone down this road. We were originally going to move to Perth but having visited we think it could be too quiet for us - our kids are 21, 18, 16, 10. Plus, it appears, two girlfriends that also want to come!! This might be the only way the older 2 will come with us so .......
    Any advice would be appreciated.

When you say you want the visa extended, do you mean the time to enter Australia to activate the visa. Or the visa is Physically due to run out. Either way I cannot see I migration allowing an extension unless it is for very serious reasons. I have only heard of one instance where it was allowed and that was because the family who were due to move lost their son suddenly. Sorry but you find that Immigration feel that if you cannot enter Australia in the given time then it has to be a very exceptional reason why.

Hi,many thanks for your reply. Yes, I meant that our visa actually runs out in May 2012. I suppose when you've got 5 years to enter permanently it seems like all the time in the world but we've now realised that time is running out and if we dont do it soon, then we cant reapply as we're over 45 and as we've got a 136 skilled visa which is obviously really flexible as to location and what we do for a living, any other visas seem quite tying. I didnt really think we'd be able to get an extension so I suppose we'd better get our skates on. Thanks anyway.
