    Hi All.

I am a Carpenter moving out to Brisbane in September, does anyone know of the "hotspot" areas where there is alot of building work going on, or is it just spread out all over the place and it doesn't matter where you live. Not being wuch of a city slicker we were looking at Cabooture or similar, but don't want to isolate ourselves from work.

    Any suggestions.

    Hi,

Take a look at seek.com and job rapido to see what work is available, there is currently a lot of flood repair work and I would imagine that you should find a lot of jobs advertised. You could also try direct email and phone calls to some of the companies and explain you have your visa and you move in September asking if they would be interested in finding you work.

Caboolture would not be my first choice to be honest. If you are willing to live that far from the CBD, then I would suggest you take a look at Bribie Island. It is 20 min away from Caboolture by car and is a great place to live, safe beaches a decent shopping center with a low crime rate and as i say only 20 min by car from Caboolture its shopping areas and the main rail line. Bribie also benefits from sea breezes off the pacific ocean and that helps to keep the humidity down.

Another way to get an idea of what areas are building is to look at the new land estates on Realestate.com.

At the totally opposite side of Brissy to Caboolture you have the SE QLD grwoth coridor,, it runs more or less from Springfield Lakes, down to the gold coast, there are 2 master planned communities due to start being built this next 12 mths (Flagstone Rise , the extension to Flagstone estate and Yarabilba near Logan Village). The area around Springfield Lakes and New Beith is also continually growing so you may find something out that way.

Thanks. Mega helpfull posts guys, Caboolture looked ok on wikipedia but you never quite get a true picture till you get true info from the people who have seen it. We havn't set our hearts on any where yet so all options are open.

LOL, Before we came here i had it all planned out that we would head for Decption Bay and settle around the Caboolture area. As you say it looked great on the www, property seemed reasonable and not to far from the coast. As soon as we visited i knew it just wasnt for us and we ended up at the totally opposite side of Brissy!!! lol,
It certainly does pay to have a week driving around looking at suburbs and where possible don't use the highway as this way you see more areas.
