Hi Helen .... all the very best people end up in Wynnum?Manly!! We've been here almost 4 months now and love it. Have you joined the sister site pomsinoz? There's loads going on there and I've made some fab friends in the Bayside, just from chatting on there! There's also a group that meets once a month in and around different parks in Brisbane - they're a friendly bunch and loads of different people often pop by. While my son is 9 so older than your children, he's a sociable lad and we'd be happy to meet at the local park. And as for coffee and cakes there are a few of us who rarely take much persuasion to meet for those ... though wouldn't want to describe us as "odd" lol  Keep in touch and we'll arrange a meet!

Well excuse me!!!!!!! All the best people indeed!!!!!!!!

Maybe some of that "very best" stuff will rub off on me if I come and visit you, but somehow I doubt it!!!!!

Hi Helen!! As Myrtle says, there's a few people around here who require very little arm twisting to get together for a cuppa / lunch / movie etc! Hopefully I am one of the "fab friends" that Myrtle mentioned

Good luck with the move and please get in touch when you get here. I am sure Myrtle will make you very welcome in the Wynnum / Manly area.

    Love

    Rudi

And I think Myrtle forgot to include "Lota"..at this rate, she could find herself drinking and eating those coffee and cakes by herself!!! She's a cheeky one to watch out for!! Good luck with the move Helen and I'm always happy to catch up with new people too.x

    Hi Helen
I bet you are having a busy weekend arent you? I remember our last remaining weeks in the UK being mad trying to see everybody :).
Anyway, I am in Bulimba which is the next suburb along from Hawthorne (they run into one another), I have a very active 2.5 year old son if you wanted to meet up and let the kids run around in one of the parks? I also attend 2 playgroups on a Tuesday and Friday morning in Bulimba which are really lovely-with a good mix of adults and children if you are interested?
Give me a shout when you get here if you fancy meeting up
    Rach x
PS where about in Cheshire are you coming from? Im from Staffordshire....

    Hi Helen,

Our family arrived here on the 28th October, we are staying in fortutitde valley and my husband working in the city. I have a 6 year old son who is so desperate to make friends it would really help with him settling in, we haven't seen many children around as I assume they are all in school so would be lovely to meet up.

    Hope your journey goes well

    Kate

Hi and thanks for all your lovely replies. Despite enjoying all the experiences so far, it does break my heart every morning when my daughter tells me dreams about her friends... I am too tired to dream- jet lag bizzarre one day i wake at 9am the next 5am and what is it with all these light mornings????

Flight was fine and had fab first few days... Been area hunting- lovely round here in hawthorne but must admit the sea is calling me- just a lack of homes in manly school cat hment ..... Off to have another look round there today... As a matter o interest what is manly west and lota like???

I will be happy to meet for coffee/ wine/ playgroups with you all so keep in touch. Hubby off another week and then I have an empty diary to fill!!!what fun

    hi Rach

I am from Audlem south of nantwich so only a few miles from staffs border.. where are you from??

would definately love to meet up - a playgroup sounds fun - always great to meet up with lots of people- though I'll have to sneak my 5 year old in!!! I also look forward to visit the park off Oxford road - the kids will love it I am sure....

I am looking forward to some female company - and advise on hair products - despite loving the climate my hair doesnt!! subsequently avoiding all mirrors....

Hubby starts work week on monday so get in touch and we can arrange something that week

    Thanks Helen

    Hi kate

My husband starts work in Fortitude valley week after next - how are you finding it??
I feel mean my 5 year old isnt in school - she is missing children her age but it seems pointless starting her until we know where to settle - which means after xmas... I am a teacher and keep meaning to do some work with her... but....

How has your experience been so far?? really like Brisbane- kids loved lone pine and yesterday we headed to Gold coast - beaches amazing but typically I just got my 'swimmers' on and it drizzled.... reminded me of UK, but at least it was warm. have you been looking at areas?

We should meet up at Southbank week after next - the kids will love that - and I could do with some R&R...

    Helen

Welcome to Brissy  Interesting to hear your comments about rentals/areas ... When we first arrived, we were looking at nearer to the CBD - Hawthorne, Bulimba, Wilston, Balmoral ... loved all those areas but couldn't get a decent rental in our price range. So we extended our area search and just loved the bayside!! Manly has few rentals in the manly state school catchment and this does seem to have been the case since we arrived here. If you are still interested in Lota - pm Mindariepoms as she lives there - but not sure whether she will have heard anything about the school as her daughter attends a different one (catholic). Good luck with your searches ... feel free to pm me if I can help with anything this end

    Hi Helen
Sorry, but my knowledge of the local school is limited but Lota Primary have been advertising pupil vacancies recently in the local press. You might find a bit of info at www.myschool.edu.au.
Lota is a lovely, quiet suburb; when we were looking for a rental there were apparently a lot of scruffy houses about asking high prices. Generally cheaper than Manly. Avoid being too close to the train track - the trains are flipping noisy! A couple of cafes and the brilliant PCYC - which has all sorts of classes - swimming, gymnastics, trampolining, tai-chi, -really, something for everyone. Feel free to PM me if you'd like anymore info or to book that cuppa next week! Now cafes are something that I can give you good advice on!!

It is lovely here but we lived in the cheshire countryside back homke and as while I am looking forward to city living - I feel I need to do it with space... Took the kids to Wynnum waterpark today and they loved it.
OH getting up early tomorrow to time journey to Fortitude valley - I am staying in bed:wub:
I will tomorrow ring up some schools and make appointments for later in the week. Hopefully I can arrange lunch with you lot next week - though I have the sprogs...;-(....
