    Hi
we are the Mcknight family from glasgow and we are hoping to move to sunny Oz! I have been trying to make sense of the visa process and have tried a couple of the free online assessments. One company came back to me a couple of days ago and said we may qualify for a 475 visa (sponsored employer ???) another one has come back saying sorry no go!! I don't know who to believe and feel really confused. Our circs are as follows, My hubby is a time served joiner who had been working as a construction project manager until april of last year when he was made redundant after 14 years with the same company. He started work again right away going back on the tools as a joiner for a couple of months. He has now managed to secure a site agents position and has been in this occupation since october '09. I work as a family support worker in mental health/homeless services for a charity. We have 2 children aged 13 and 11. Does anyone have any idea if we might have a sniff of getting into Australia, our preferred choice is Queensland as we visited 2 years ago and we loved it!!
help help help any advice would be gratefully received

The visa process can be very confusing! Most of the good agents will talk to you on the telephone and offer you some free initial advice about your options. You can then choose whether or not to use an agent for your visa process. I would call some up and see what they say.

    Good luck

    Love

    Hi Guys

Sponsership is a way into Oz but does carry some risks and i personally would only go for that visa if you cannot get a PR one.

I know lots of familys who came on sponsership, sadly a few of them did lose their jobs for one reason or another . If this happens you have so many days to find another employer willing to take over your sponsership or you have to leave the country. This can be heartbreaking if you are all settled both mentally and financially and cant find another employer.

Have a chat with an agent, Go Matilda, Visa Bureau, SOMV all are good companys who wont rip you off or lead you on a goose chase.

Lots of luck with everything and let us know how you go.

Thanks to all crossing everything you've got for us!

Felling a bit down in the dumps at the moment, seems that OH lacking a degree in his occupational discipline is proving to be a sticking point. Don't you just hate it when you read the first opening lines of an e mail from a prospective agent and you know it's not good news. Ironically we visited Queensland 18 months ago on a reccie and approached several recruitment agents who all agreed that they could have placed my OH in work easily if only he had a visa!!!!!!!

Whilst we haven't heard the final knell yet, I remain hopeful that someone will send good news soon.

Will post again as soon as I hear anything.

Anyone know a good " we need a visa spell/chant/mantra"?

Clan -waiting for good news/glimmer of hope -Mac x

    Hi Cal
Thank you for your kind thoughts!

You are correct and Gill has given me really excellent advice. What a kind and generous lady, she really is a superstar.

Have received word today that OH would qualify for enough points if assessed as a joiner, this will mean Ian changing jobs (in the middle of a recession!), however I am confident that it is a sacrifice worth making. We really loved Oz when we visited. Have just watched Wanted Down Under and felt sick with anxiety at the thought of how much I miss it there! Hopefully will now meet with an agent and go ahead with application. Will keep posting as progress is made.

It's a pain having to change jobs......but a means to an end I suppose. It will give you time to get all your paperwork sorted so that once he's done his 12 months, you are absolutely ready with everything.

Good luck finding a new job!

    Love

Cal I am recording WDU and look forward to seeing your re-visit.

People here at BIB are so kind, I think I may write to the Queen to have you all nominated for awards. What do you think guys? Sir Cal? Lord Rudi? and Dame Gollywobbler?

    Many apologies Cal

I shall write to the Queen for awards for you all as stated, however, I shall ask for you to be Lady Cal. I only hope that when you and dame golly get your awards you'll still keep posting to the ordinary folks!

On a more serious note! I am so grateful to this forum and PIO for all the fantastic advice. The regulations are a minefield not to mention the large costs involved in applying for a visa, these forums really help people like me to make sense of it all and sometimes it's just good to talk.

    sincere thanks to all

    Actually I AM the Queen!

    Dear Queen Rudi,

Please give the kind ladies of BIB & PIO (Cal, Golly & yourself) gongs. They have gone above and beyond not just for me, but also for many other visa virgins just like me.

    sincere thanks

    Hi Cal,

    thanks for your kind words.
As far as the visa goes, we are still in the preliminary stages. We cannot apply for the visa until Ian has a positive skills assessment, so we are in the process of undertaking this at the moment.
Obviously after the Feb 8th abolition of the MODL we have lost 15 points, but I am a perpetual optimist and am just hoping that the new SOL will have Ian's occupation listed. Put it this way, we are still going for it, if that means it will take longer so be it. We have made the decision to move now so there's no turning back. Just to cheer myself up I am reading Bill Bryson's Down Under and laughing my big fat ass off!!!

will keep posting as application progresses
