    Hi Steve,

We are in a similar situation, my husband and I have a baby boy who is 10mths old and we are looking for a nice area, with good schools and plenty for kiddies to do as well as us grown ups! Although we have only just started to look into the whole process of going to Oz, we've heard from friends/colleagues that Wellington Point is a nice area, plenty for kiddies to do, good schools etc. We are also looking at North Lakes but not sure how far it is from Brisbane and my husband would have to travel there to work, he is a joiner. If you have any info you can pass on to me that would be great.

    Good luck!

  3. Hi
We too are in the same situation, just started the visa application process. Looking at going to Brisbane but not a clue as to which areas. Most of the jobs for my husband (welder) seem to be adveritsed as the south of the city, have been looking at Wellington Point, bayside and Cleveland areas, all were recommended from people using this forum! Good Luck

    Hi Steve and family
Dont know what plumbers can earn, try this website if you don't already know it: www.immi.gov.au it gives you all job listings and potential wages. I'm a carpenter and joiner, have just returned from a 2 week reccie, mades loads of phone calls whilst there and it seems all our trades are well in demand in Brisbane.
Other websites we've found useful: www.ourbrisbane.com
    www.wagenet.com.au
    www.realestate.com.au

    Hi

We are in the same boat too - moving out next year with a 2 year old so looking for the same things from the place we live, good schools/nursery, good local health facilities and nearby shops.
We have been to Brisbane before and I do have some distant "rellies" that live in Redcliffe that say that area is very nice - it certainly looked it when we stayed with them a few years ago. It has a man made lagoon for the kiddies which is surrounded by greenery with big public bar-b-q's and places to eat. The beach is lovely and sheltered and has a lifeguard patrol which is good for the kids and there is a big, very good, local hospital in the area. Don't know anything about the schools but the rellies tell me they are good and there is a big, local shopping centre near by at Kipperring and also some local shops/coffee houses etc facing the ocean. I think it has quite an elderley population but I suppose that way it will be fairly quiet and you won't get groups of yobs hanging around.
North Lakes has also been recommended to me but I believe it has quite a big ex-pat population there, I suppose it depends whether you want other British folk for neighbours or other Aussies...pros and cons for both! The houses are supposed to be really nice though, more UK/European in design and supposedly you get a lot of house for your money. I imagine it is called North Lakes because it is near a lake, if so you'd need to ask if they get loads of mosquitos at night, as any lakes/rivers we stayed near in Australia became mossi-tastic in the evening, so much so that in some areas you couldn't sit outside unless you wanted to sit in 5 inches of insect repellent or be eaten alive! The joys of living in a hot climate...and I'm still looking forward to it!

    areas to live

visited brisbane during march and looked around many display homes and areas, got advice on best areas from brissy council and talking to people. Really if you not been to the place then do that first before taking the plunge. I can't understand why people go without checking it out first. Theres a massive ammount of looking around finding the places to live. We checked out the areas on coast and these homes were almost double homes in newer suburbs. So really do check place out. The council told us to avoid ipswich and logan as this is full of unemployed sorts. Scum basically.

    Hi
I know just how you all feel having moved from Sydney to Brisbane last year. I live in Redlandshire and can't praise it enough, check out www.brisbanefirstconnections.com.au We looked all over the place from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast it is all beautiful. Check out the website to find out why we chose the Redlands, scoll down the page about us!! The schools here are excellent, there are many parks and bbq areas for families to use free of charge, and we live by the ocean which is wonderful. There are cycle paths galore, and if you are lucky you will see a Koala, as Redland Shire is home to one of the largest Koala populations in Australia. It is only 35 mins drive into the city from here, but it feels like you are on holiday all the time. For families it is fantastic, there is no doubt in my mind, we love it here!!!

Plumbers can earn from $18.00ph which is low pay, up to $$30.00 ph depending on your experience with Aussie plumbing, but if you want to go self employed you could earn up to $35 to $45 ph but you will have to do a few short cources at a college to trade as a self employed plumber.
Doesnt sound a lot but remember the cost of living is a lot cheaper out here.

    hi kenny
all i can tell you is that we went over in march for 2 weeks ,befor we went i spent hours on the immi web site ,looking for jobs in brisbane. so before i got there i had phone numbers to try. the best thing you can do is when you get there ,buy the brisbane courier ,the best days are a saterday or wensday .there are lots and lots of jobs for our trade. with the tra. you have to tell them every thing u have ever done ,pages and pages of yourself ,you all so have to tell them how your tools of the trade work. biggest part of all get as many refs as u can. after going there and talking to people about work .i can say for sure the work is there if u are willing to work.

    Hi all,

I wish to rent somewhere in the near future in the Gold Coast area but cannot apply to rent until I have viewed a property internally, this I can't do from the UK and I want to have somewhere organised before I get there instead of wasting money in hotels. Does anyone know any businesses that do this for you???

    Please help
