    Hi Fran

My hubby works in IT. The IT scene here in Brissy is not as buoyant as Sydney and Melboure, but he's had not problem finding jobs up here.

    I hope that helps

    Love

    Hi Rudi,
Thanks very much for replying and for your honest info. Would you mind telling me what area of IT your hubby works in, mine is a Network Planner (from the survey, planning to installation of LAN infrastructures). Not that I know alot about networks but I am sure your hubby will! How long have you been in Brissy if you dont mind me asking? I have a family member (not immediate though) in Strathpine and she loves it there!

My Hubby is the Regional Director for a software company - something to do with virtual software!!! He's more marketing and sales than technical!

Been in Brissy for 18 months and LOVE it!! Was in Sydney for 5 years too.

    Hi Rudi,
Thanks so much for replying again, it's great that I can correspond with someone who has made the move already. Sounds like Brisbane is the place to be, we are planning a holiday/reccy to Sydney and Brisbane combined with visiting family, when do you think the best time to come out is-it be good to know so we can look at flight costs?
Just wish this visa business wasnt so complicated and not so discriminatory on age, although my hubby has the right credentials in terms of IT experience he is 48 so doesnt qualify for the SOL route..Aaarrggh, it's so frustrating, I think the only way we can do it is if we can find a company to sponsor him but then again I fear he wont be looked at because of his age and I am just a PA and I dont think Oz has a shortage of them!!!. Maybe we should try and win the lottery and come out on an investment visa if there is one..ha ha! We're not giving up though, we are determined to make the move, I just feel that the UK has nothing to offer my children in terms of prospects and the quality of life for them would be much better in Oz. At the end of the day we all want the best for our children's future they are the most important things in our lives thats why we are sooo determined to make the move. Love to hear from you soon.
    Take care

I managed to get my application in before I turned 45 but am almost the same age as your hubby and the people I have spoken to when in Oz and while back here didn't seem to have any issues with my age.

One thing I have found is that there aren't a lot of jobs offering to sponsor you out to Oz so not sure where that leaves you. We are however going to the Down Under Live event in Leeds to get the bumph on movers, pet transport etc, you may find that one of these events would be more liable to have sponsor friendly companies.

I don't suppose they'd be interested in someone who has 25+ years experience and is currently an Active Directory system admin (MS servers from NT3.51 up, and experience of VMWare, MS VSS, and some Citrix) with extensive SQL, VB/C# and other development experience

Let me ask hubby - I don't know much about it all - but VMWare experience is ringing positive bells! I think he was looking for someone much more junior than your experience suggests - but not sure if he's hired yet. What is your status regarding a visa etc? Remind me - it's probably here somewhere. I know they would be unable to sponsor anyone coming over.

Oh and if not, he has a pretty tame recruitment bloke he knows so that may be of use to you. Hubby is in Sydney overnight, but I will ask him about stuff when I speak to him later.

OK, I spoke to hubby and I am really sorry, but he says he's afraid not. He said you sound like a developer.......whatever one of those is.....and all the development stuff is not done in Australia - it's sale and marketing stuff here.

    Sorry!

    Love

    Hi Rudi,

Don't go to a lot of trouble, I was just putting feelers out  but having potential job contacts in Brisbane etc would be very handy.

We have our permanent Resident visas and hope to get to Brisbane in Aug/Sept/Oct depending on how our house sells when it hits the market, although the wife and I have discussed me coming out on my own if a good (well paying) job was available. I'd organise all the Oz things such as TFNs, rental property etc and she'd pack stuff up and ship it across until the house sells.

But first we need to find a workman who will actually follow through on quoting and doing the job ... I think they've all emigrated

    Not a problem

My current job is a bit strange as it's almost 50% doing infrastructure work with hardware and systems, and 50% doing development for various group systems. I think most IT folk tend to have 1 specialisation, I seem to have always ended up in jobs where I do both roles.

I'll happily nick the details of his tame recruitment guy when we get across though
