    Hi,

My husband is Australian and he's had enough of the wonderful English weather and the cheery economic climate, so we're moving to Brisbane. Personally, I am a bit scared of leaving everything I know and my family and friends. On reading the blogs, it seems that overall, the best thing to do for the family is to move to Aus. Big step for me though...

    Hi Jo
Migrating is a big step and it is very scarey at first, i dont think anyone can deny that. Missing friends and family really can pull on your heart strings but with time life does become 'normal' here and you get less and less wobbly days, lol.
We have been in Brisbane almost 5 years and we love it, the place is fab, the people are friendly and the variety of scenery is stunning so at least hubby has put you on the right track to move to a fantastic place, lol.
    Good Luck with everything

    Hi Joe,

I moved here just over 2 years ago and left my family in the UK, I now have a grandson i have never seen, missing your family can be the one big hurdle to clear. i do not regret coming here and if I had the choice again I would make the same decision and move to Australia. If you are worried about what happens if you do not like it or do not manage to settle here than make an escape plan before you arrive. That way you will know its not permanent if you do not want it to be.

Good luck with your future, It is great country

Thanks for your kind and reassuring words, I am really looking forward to the new challenges that face me, and it's only a 26 hour flight home! Now all we have to do is find jobs and somewhere to lives, schools, childcare....

    Hi Jo
Welcome to the forum. Although Australia is 'the other side of the world', it doesn't mean as much as it used to. Like you say, it's only a longish flight between the countries. It's easy to keep in touch with family via skype and if your family is anything like mine, I'm sure you'll see plenty of them anyway. I've been here 6 years now. In that time, my mum's visited 3 times, my dad twice, mother in law 3 times, brother once, brother in law once and friends twice ! Often the visits are for months at at time, so we hardly seem to have had the house to ourselves since we've been here:laugh:. Good luck with whatever decision you take.
