Went on the first full season game of AFL at Cairns today, between Richmond and the Gold Coast Suns. Cost about $65 for four of us, which is pretty good value. Only a small stadium in Cairns, but was a full house with the attendance just short of 11,000. Was pretty much a neutral, but thought we'd support the Suns given they're a new team and the definite underdogs. With The Tigers leading by 36 points after the first quarter, it looked odds on that it as going to be a loonnnggggg afternoon barracking for the Sun's, but not so! With the wind playing a major part, the second quarter saw the Sun's turn a 36 point deficit into a 3 point advantage by half time. Suddenly, my middle son who had decided to throw his support behind the Tigers and backed this up with a $5 dollar bet with his brother, wasn't quite so confident:laugh: With the wind behind them again for the third quarter, Richmond edged into a 13 point lead, but it was never likely to be enough. The Suns kicked 5 goals in the final quarter to run out 85:70 winners. Enjoyable afternoon, only another year to wait for the next AFL game in Cairns now
